Description of
Norwood Gardens The gardens at
Norwood cover an area of approximately 3 acres. Work on creating it began late
in 2002 and it will be several years before the design will be fully
implemented. Of course, it can be argued that a garden is never finished and no
doubt that will be as true of Norwood as it is of any other garden.
The name
Norwood Gardens, in the plural, is a clue to the design. The backbone of the
site is the Long Walk, a wide path over 180 metres long which extends almost
the full length of the garden. To either side are set 7 gardens of various
sizes, each with its own theme. They are separated from each other by borders
and areas of mixed planting ranging from annual bedding plants to drifts of
substantial shrubs. The whole area is generously planted with trees. The
gardens are designed with many seating areas to encourage our visitors to stop,
sit down and relax. Every seat has a unique view, sometimes intimate, sometimes
expansive, but always, we hope, interesting. There are many larger gardens
which can be visited but we hope your stay at Norwood will be amongst the
longest and most pleasurable. |
